THE DAILY DO CHICAGO TOP 10: NEW YEAR'S EVE 2015
Hello Daily Do-ers,

Still thinking about what to do for the holiday to literally end all holidays AKA New Year’s Eve? Well, good thing it’s all been broken down for you right here on The Daily Do Chicago in a very cheeky Top 10 list. Who doesn’t love a top 10 list? No one. Everyone loves them.

Also, just wanted to say THANKS for hanging out with us this year! Look out for more TDD Chicago in 2015!
1SINKANE PLAYS SCHUBA’SSinkane (by Martine Carlson)
Schuba’s, 10pm, $25 (advance) $30 (Doors)
If you’re seeking a little bit more low key of a night to cap off your year, we highly recommend that you check out Sinkane at Schuba’s. Sinkane blends a mix of krautrock, funk, and free jazz that makes you feel like you’ve just landed on a sandy beach. Tickets are well priced, the mac n’cheese at the Harmony Grill next door is undeniably scrumptious and the Schuba’s crowd is always fun-loving and low key. It’s a casual affair but I’m sure that if you really feel like wearing that super sparkly gown or tux, just go for it. It’s New Year’s Eve! Go big or go home.

Schubas 3rd Annual Turkey Bowl

SATURDAY: SCHUBAS 3RD ANNUAL TURKEY BOWL

Noon  .  Schubas  .  Free  .  Details here

Try and tell me you’ve never had the urge to throw frozen turkeys at bowling pins, just try. There’s no better day than today to hang out in a parking lot, drink cheap beer, and do just that. Flex your biceps and show those frosty turkeys who’s boss at Schubas 3rd Annual Turkey Bowl. Turkey bowling has to be a pretty common urge considering it’s the 3rd year this has gone on. I imagine these turkeys are the grocery store leftovers from Thanksgiving that no one ever claimed, now past their prime. So sad. But at least they will now be put to (good) use. What an honor it will be to tell your friends you came in 1st place at the frozen turkey bowling championships. Just think of what that gorgeous, golden trophy will look like.

Amidst Lush Plantlife

jan-19-amidst-lush-plantlifeSUNDAY: CHICAGO COMPOSERS ORCHESTRA PRESENTS: AMIDST LUSH PLANTLIFE

3-4:30pm  .  Garfield Park Conservatory  .  Free  .  Details here

Feeling stressed? I may have the solution for you, and it’s not what you’re expecting. On this lazy Sunday afternoon, take shelter from the cold and duck into the Garfield Park Conservatory. Thaw out while wandering through a wonderland of greenery (just steps away from the Green Line), imagining you’re in an 80-degree tropical paradise rather than in the depths of another Chicago winter. The conservatory is always a free relaxing retreat any day of the week, but today they up the ante. Tucked in, Amidst Lush Plantlife, members of the Chicago Composers Orchestra will be providing musical accompaniment to add to your soothing experience. Just thinking about music and plants all under one, extremely warm roof makes me feel calm so I’ll probably just melt into a pool of zen jelly when I actually get there.

5th Annual Shelter Shiver

jan-5-shelter-shiverSUNDAY: 5TH ANNUAL SHELTER SHIVER

10am  .  North Avenue Beach  .  $25  .  Register here

Psh posh it’s not cold, it’s just brisk. This will be among the lies you tell yourself as you prepare to plunge into Lake Michigan this morning at the 5th Annual Shelter Shiver. You’re not doing this because you’re a nut; you’re simply nuts about animals and will do almost anything to protect their lives and welfare. The Shelter Shiver benefits ALIVE Rescue, an organization that saves, rehabilitates, and places abandoned, abused, and stray animals (cue the Sarah McLachlan music). After the chilly dip, take your frosty bones and swag bag over to the after-party at Joe’s Bar stocked with free food and drinks, where you can get down to warm up. Prizes go out to best costume and best team theme so dress in your Sunday best.

SMOKE A CIGAR

Take a walk outside tonight and puff a seasoned stogie as a melodramatic bidding adieu to the warm weather. You won’t be able to tell if it’s the cigar smoke or your frozen breath in the air and that’s the point. When there’s nothing left, extinguish your summer memories with the last of the cigar and head home for the long, cold winter.
