TDD Top 10 Places To Watch the Super Bowl 2015

TDD Top 10 Places To Watch the Super Bowl 2015
For a fair-weather football fan like me, the Super Bowl is just another excuse to eat way more chicken wings than any human should eat and to watch ridiculously produced and expensive beer commercials. To be honest, IDGAF about the halftime show this year because Beyoncé isn’t performing. However, I still want to party and so do you. So here are the Daily Do Chicago – Top 10 Places To Watch the 2015 Super Bowl, in no particular order.

1SINKANE PLAYS SCHUBA’SSinkane (by Martine Carlson)
Schuba’s, 10pm, $25 (advance) $30 (Doors)
If you’re seeking a little bit more low key of a night to cap off your year, we highly recommend that you check out Sinkane at Schuba’s. Sinkane blends a mix of krautrock, funk, and free jazz that makes you feel like you’ve just landed on a sandy beach. Tickets are well priced, the mac n’cheese at the Harmony Grill next door is undeniably scrumptious and the Schuba’s crowd is always fun-loving and low key. It’s a casual affair but I’m sure that if you really feel like wearing that super sparkly gown or tux, just go for it. It’s New Year’s Eve! Go big or go home.

New Year’s Eve!

dec-31-best-new-years-eve-chicagoTUESDAY: NEW YEAR’S EVE!

If you couldn’t find a house party or didn’t want to throw your own, you’ll have to make the chilly trek to a bar or hotel, pay a bundle for a drink package, rub up against sweaty bodies until you find one suitable enough to kiss when the clock strikes midnight, then freeze as you walk the streets looking for an empty cab home (there aren’t any). That sounds like one crappy night, but it can be the best night of the year if you choose wisely (party and partner). I can’t help you with the latter, but here are 10 events tonight that should make 2013 worth your while.

Eve of the Eve Benefit Party

dec-30-eve-of-eve-union-stationMONDAY: 20TH ANNUAL EVE OF THE EVE BENEFIT PARTY

8pm  .  Union Station  .  $125-$140  .  Buy tickets here

This party has been happening for 20 years now so I’m betting it’s a pretty good time. Benefitting HighSight’s scholarship program, over 2,000 urbanites will mix and mingle as they enjoy cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, live music, and dancing in Union Station’s Great Hall at the 20th Annual Eve of the Eve Party. The black tie attire is optional (clothing is not) but it’s more fun if you dress to the nines and get your swank on. Have a ball and practice your NYE partying the night before so you can fine-tune it for the 31st.

Merry Christmas!

dec-25-christmasWEDNESDAY: MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Hope you got everything you wanted. And I’m sure what you wanted was for your family not to torture you with a horribly awkward Christmas card like the one above. Or this one. Or this one. Be grateful that your family isn’t this weird. If they are…sorry.

A Very Merry Madrigal

dec-22-very-merry-madrigalSUNDAY: A VERY MERRY MADRIGAL AT NO EXIT CAFÉ

1:30pm  .  No Exit Cafe  .  $25-$40  .  Buy tickets here

Today is the last chance to get your seasonal dose of singing, feasting, and tomfoolery at A Very Merry Madrigal. Revel in ye olde celebration and join in on a few notes in between bites of your figgy pudding. If the holiday songs and cheerful performances don’t fill you up, you can tack on the optional 3-course meal fit for a king. That way, if the jester isn’t dancing to your liking you’ll be able to send a little encouragement his way (in the form of a Cornish hen leg to the head).

Worst Ever Christmas Letters Show

dec-17-worst-ever-christmas-lettersTUESDAY: WORST EVER CHRISTMAS LETTERS SHOW AT UNCOMMON GROUND

8pm  .  Uncommon Ground on Clark  .  $10 at Door  .  Details here

You know the kind. Covertly concealed in a Christmas card that’s seemingly spring-loaded, spewing forth a lengthy newsletter trimmed with a dazzling MS Word holiday border. You roll your eyes picking it up but secretly can’t wait to dive into the awkwardly excessive update of gruesome family details. Bobby just finished college and although he decided to pursue dance instead of engineering as originally planned, we certainly think he made the right choice. Ashley just gave birth to her second child and on top of that, she aced her 11th grade geometry test; she’s got life all figured out! Mark is still loving his job and raking in loads of cash so we’re able to send these obnoxious family vacation photos to you. Here we are in Maui! (ps. Check out my killer bod). The Conspirators Theatre Company knows these newsletters all too well and brings the best ones to life tonight at the Worst Ever Christmas Letters Show.

Looking for some laughs and an everlasting memory of your ridiculousness (in photo form)? Take a trip to the mall to get a snapshot with Santa. The lines may be long and you’ll certainly get some uncomfortable glares from irritated mommies, but seeing the look on shopping center Santa’s face as a handful of adults swarm him is worth it. Bonus points if you dress as an elf or you cry for the picture. Classic.
